Would it float out of the water? This was on the mind of a student in Ms. Drysdale’s class at the Colinton Primary School in Scotland. This question eventually found its way to our departments’ twitter account. After consulting with some of our educators, we were able to provide the student with an answer but why should we stop there? We felt this would be a great opportunity to establish a Virtual Visit connection and help answer any other questions the students had about our solar system.

Helping me answer the students questions during the day of the program was fellow co-worker Adiel Fernandez. Adiel and I were very impressed with how all of these students thought completely “out of the box”. Here are some examples of the questions they had: Why do we have space and what is it for? How did planets come about? What would Mars look like if you cut it in half?

Both The New York Hall of Science and Ms. Drysdale’s class had an excellent time together and hope we can establish other connections in the near future.

These are the words of Mr. Simon Lewis, Principal of the Carlow Educate Together school in Ireland. On Monday June 15th, our Hall Around the World initiative was able to reach his wonderful students. Mr. Lewis had this to add as well: “The children learned more from the experience than they would usually do from a similar experiment done in class”. It was such an amazing experience for myself to be able to share one of our virtual visits with a school group outside the United States. The enthusiasm these students had for participating in this program was simply stunning for me. Keep checking our site to see where Hall Around the World will go next.

Saying that the experience was ‘fun’ would be the understatement of the century. I had such an amazing time performing our Chemistry Demonstration in two separate sessions for them. Karina’s group of students were polite, intelligent, and very excited about connecting with us. This is actually my first of several connections with the school. I will have 2 “Journey Inside The Eye” programs with their 5th graders tomorrow. I am very much looking forward to this. You can view some of the pictures down below:
