Roxanne, Thank you for your responses and, it is very important to show students the fun aspect of science which there is a lot of! We will not launch any pumpkins without getting it on film so there will definitely be a video coming soon on that!

I am a late bloomer to science, so I am intrigued by how amazing science is and am always looking for interesting ways to engage students. I don't want them leaving school with the idea that science is making little index cards with vocabulary words on them!

Flying pumpkins! Please say you are going to shoot video of that!

Staying tuned!
Roxanne

Thank you Roxanne for your response. It is great for students to get the opportunity to actually see science phenomena. For safety reasons, we are limited to what we can launch but later this month we will be seeing pumpkins flying in the sky which is always fun! As for the Virtual Visit, we have been experimenting in trying to capture the catapult in action but it is too difficult to have it translate well due to the catapults tremendous size. Stay Tuned thought for future Catapult footage!

Now, that just looks like a lot of fun. I watched the first movie and I love the quote when she said, "the science is visible". We need more things like this for our students.

Do you have a contest or something where we can submit things that you could put on the catapult? Will this be a Virtual Visit?

[...] The recent discovery of further evidence that liquid water exists on Mars has me very excited because of the connections it has to our Virtual Visit Unit Search for Life Beyond Earth. In this program we study extremophiles (microbes) that live on earth in intense conditions and see where in the universe we may find similar conditions. One idea we study is the how, on earth anyway, liquid water is fundamental for life and that when we find water we often find life in some form. [...]
